Queens' has no bias against any applicant from any background. We are looking for excellent academic candidates whether they be male or female, state school or public school, arts or sciences. Don't believe any negative tales about Cambridge University, they are usually myth - if you have any serious queries, please contact us direct and we will be happy to help you.
Queens' makes individual offers based on the education system in which the applicant is studying e.g. A-levels, Certificate of Sixth Year Studies, Irish Leaving Certificate, International Baccalaureate or whichever final year examination is taken in the country where the student is studying for entry to higher\university education. Some overseas examinations are more well known than others, if you are unsure whether your qualifications are acceptable please check with the Admissions Office before applying.
As a general rule for Arts courses Queens' is happy to consider students with different combinations of A-level subjects. However we do prefer traditional academic subjects. For Science courses the choices are less flexible (see individual subject sheets) if you are unsure about your A-level subjects, please check with us before applying, or better still, before making your choices.
Typically an offer by Queens' made on A-levels would be three A grades together with grade 1 in certain Sixth Term Examination Papers (STEP) if required for that subject. (see individual subject sheets). This offer would only vary in special, individual circumstances. All other offers in all other exams are based on an equivalent achievement or, to put it another way, if the top 5% of students in the UK achieve three A grades at A-level, then we would be looking for candidates predicted to be in the same educational percentile in their own country or examination area.
This College encourages deferred entry for all subjects (yes, even Maths!). We strongly urge students to consider taking a year out and we will ask you about it at interview. No one is pressured to take a gap year but we feel it is beneficial to both the student and to the College.
