This early photograph of Essex Building was published in C.H. Cooper's edition of Memorials of Cambridge in January 1860. Several versions exist, with the figures on the bridge at slightly different positions. In later reprints, the photograph is replaced by a copperplate etching. The iron road bridge of 1841 is shown.
