| Subject: Where from: School type: | History Windermere Comprehensive | |||
| What excites me about my subject: | My subject is really broad and we get a lot of control and choice about what we can study which isn't always available with history courses! I love learning about the past and seeing how it has informed the present in which we live. The course is very flexible timewise as not all of the lectures are compulsory and this gives you further control over your study and allows you a lie in from time to time! History at Cambridge also has the added advantage of providing the world experts on the topics you are studying. Most of the books that you will read will have been written by the people who were lecturing you in the morning which, again, is not always available with other history courses. | ||||
| What else I get up to in Cambridge: | I play netball for Queens' college (both mixed and ladies), row for Queens' and next Michaelmas will be venturing into women's rugby! I have also been involved behind the scenes in a drama production last term . | ||||
| What I think about Queens': | I was terrified of coming to Queens' as, coming from a 'non-Cambridge' background, I was worried that I would be looked down upon by the masses (or so I imagined) of really posh public school people. However, this simply wasn't true. Queens' college has a really diverse mix of people and offers you loads of opportunities to integrate and meet new people, right from the first day of Freshers' week. Queens' has a really good reputation among the student body as a whole as being a fun, laid back (well, by Cambridge standards) college with great facilities - our bar and our student nights attract loads of people from other colleges which is not true of many of the other colleges. Quite simply, Queens' has the nicest and most fun people that I've met whilst being here and has the best community atmosphere of any other college. | ||||
