Queens' College Boat Club
Lent Bumps 2012 has drawn to a close as QCBC saw an exciting and thrilling week for all crews...
M1
(+1 to 4th) Starting 5th on the river, racing was always going to be tough. LMBC bumped FaT ahead on the first day, leading to a simple row over for M1. The following two days were a wonderful struggle of wills as Queens' gained overlap on both days but couldn't quite execute. The final Saturday saw Queens' on their game, ready to pounce on every FaT error- a solid bump was made on the first half of the reach to leave Queens' at 4th on the river. As far as we know, the highest placing in Lents since 1995.
W1
(-4 to 9th) A tricky week! Although women's numbers are now swelling in the boat club- 4 boats rowing all term, only W1 competed in bumps and with 3 first years who have had to make a tough step up. Day 1 came incredibly close to a great escape from Christs (who had been top college for most of term), but contact was made on the reach just as Queens' looked to be lifting. Days 2, 3, and 4 saw Jesus, Clare and Caius catching W1, returning Queens' to their position before last Lents.
M2
(-2 to 8th 2nd boat) Row overs on days 1 and 2 were followed by Christ's M2 springing out of the blocks to catch M2 before we could make ground on a slower Wolfson boat. Anglia Ruskin 1st boat caught M2 on the final Saturday.
M3
(+2) A boat with great potential were struck by an unfortunate crab on stroke 10 of the first day, allowing Wolfson 2 to catch them. Day 2 saw M3 return the bump on Wolfson, before two exciting rows (3 boat sandwiches!) on days 3 and 4 saw Queens' catch Fitzwilliam 2 and Addenbrooke's. Some phenomenal pushes along plough reach and great lines around Grassy corner were a great weapon in the armoury.
M4
(-3) First M4 on the river! After a great performance in the getting on race, M4 had an exciting week.... Day 1 saw an ejector crab on the way to the start, followed by losing 6" of the bow before we had a chance to make the start. Honour marginally intact, M4 came out firing on day 2 with a fabulous row over ahead of Hughes Hall. Day 3 saw a messy pile up around Grassy corner (the Jeffery hull wasn't so smooth round the bends) and a technical bump saw M4 drop a position. Anglia Ruskin 2 sped down First Post Reach to catch M4 which brought the end to an exciting week.
With a further 3 men's and 3 women's boats all training this term the club is hitting a massive high in terms of participation. Bring on the Mays!
