The Muniment Room

The Muniment Room

The old treasure house of the College was built on the first floor of the Great Tower or Gate House. It has a stone floor and a vaulted ceiling and is approached by a spiral staircase from Old Court. The oak door had three separate locks with different keys, one to be kept by the President, one by the Bursar and the third by one of the Fellows.
The titles, registers, accounts, charters and treasures of the College were kept here. The documents, some of which predate the College now form the Queens’ archive which is currently lodged in the University Library. The collection, which represents a unique insight into College life over 560 years, is in urgent need of a comprehensive catalogue and conservation.
