Spiritual Life at Queens'

The Chapel and Spiritual Life in Queens’

The Chapel is the spiritual heart of the College community, rather like a Parish Church standing at the heart of a village or town or area. During term time there are regular services almost every day to which members of the College and their guests are always welcome. The main services are also open to the general public. The Chapel is a Church of England church, but members of all Christian traditions are most welcome at the services, as are members of other faiths and none. The Communion is open to members of all Christian denominations. From time to time Roman Catholic and other denominational services are arranged in the Chapel and it is also used by the Christian Union and other non-denominational groups.
The Chapel is open throughout the day for private meditation or prayer – an area of the antechapel has been set aside with comfortable chairs where anyone can sit, pray, think or converse quietly.
The primary focuses of the Chapel are as a space for worship and as a space for quiet and meditation. It is also a centre of information about Christian events, opportunities of service, charities, meetings and lectures, etc. and the noticeboard and magazine rack are regularly updated by the Chapel Secretary. The Chapel is also used for concerts, rehearsals, organ lessons, recordings and other events. Anyone wishing to book the Chapel should consult the Dean of Chapel in the first instance. The Old Music Room at the back of chapel is under the control of the St Margaret Society, but when it is being used for rehearsal care should be taken to avoid clashes with services or events in Chapel.

The Dean of Chapel and Chaplain is the Revd Dr Jonathan Holmes. He is available for consultation by any member of the College or its staff. His rooms are in the Cripps Building, FF8 – if you wish to contact him either call at his rooms or email: jmh38@cam.ac.uk

The Revd Dr Fraser Watts (fnw1001), Fellow of Queens’, Assistant Chaplain and Director of Studies in Theological and Religious Studies, is also available to give advice and counselling to members of Queens’. His room is BB46.

The Chapel Clerk is Tom Blackburn (tb371)

Queens’ Chapel Choir sings at the evening services on Wednesdays and Sundays and occasionally at other services. Enquiries about the Choir should be directed to the Director of Music or one of the organ scholars.
The Director of Music is Madeleine Lovell (ml226)
The Organ Scholars are Jemima Stevenson (jls69) and Alex Berry
